Soapstone comes from Kisii, a western province of Kenya. In idyllic setting, Kenyan sculptors use traditional tools and methods handed down from father to son, a very important cultural aspect in society. They quarry their own stone and carve it using only hand tools. The artist adapts his work to fit the special attributes of each piece of stone, making every object with its unique variations, a one-of-a-kind work of art. After detailing is done it is polished to a high sheen to unearth an elegant and graceful product for a modern décor. Since each item is hand carved each item has its own personality and varies slightly in color and shape, each with their own personality. Enjoy the translucent shades, dusty hues and the pleasure of handling the cool, smooth pieces.
Some items have been painted with folk-style designs. Each piece is unique and often whimsical, based on the artist’s imagination and preference.
This vase is 8 inches tall and 3 ˝ inches in width.
