The “rungu” or club has always carried a certain amount of symbolism and significance in the African culture. The former President of Kenya (Daniel Arap Moi) was always seen with his rungu when he is in public. The African tribes have, for decades, used the rungu for a weapon either in war with their enemies or when they were hunting. The “rungu” is very durable because it’s made from a hard wood tree that has naturally formed round knots on its branches. The Maasai have taken the “rungu” one step farther when the women began sewing decorative beads onto the handles. Each rungu is unique in the different colors and patterns of beadwork that the Maasai ladies sew on to the rungus.

This rungu is 19 inches long, 3 inches wide.
