Featured here is a (one) beautiful carved spear, called a “mapingo” in Kiswahili. This spear’s intricately carved shaft is in the form of a Masai warrior, complete with shield and spear or you may choose the female carving in traditional dress. This shaft is made of ebony wood, inlaid with copper wire, and was made by the Rangi tribe of central Tanzania.

The craftsman carved the shaft from a piece of black, ebony wood, which is an exceptionally hard and richly dark wood found in the borderland strip along the tropical areas in certain sections of Central Africa. Ebony’s exceptional density makes it both heavy and beautiful in its black, glossy sheen when polished. The blade is steel, which today is made from melted-down springs of old cars and forged by the Chaga people.

The spear is approx. 46-48 inches long,
